Lost Passport In BKK

LOST of PASSPORT in Bangkok

What to do when passport was lost overseas?

Step 1: Police Station

Go to the police station to make a police report. Depending on countries, for BKK you have to go to the district police station where the crime take place.

The police will pass you the below form to fill up.

Thereafter they will translate to Thai language. Just like this..........

Step 2: Singapore Embassy

Go to the Singapore Embassy to get the Document of Identity.

Location: 129 South Sathorn Rd, Bangkok 10120 (abt 15mins ride from MBK)

Tel: 001-66-(81)844-3580 (24hrs)

Operating Hrs:
Mon - Fri: 9am to 12pm and 1pm to5pm
Weekend/PH : Closed

FEE: $360 THB (abt SG15)

They would require the following:
  1. 1 Passport Photo
  2. Any documentation to prove your identity e.g. photocopy of passport, IC etc.
  3. Police Report
If you have everything it will be faster for SG ICA to verify your identity. Usually it will takes 1-3 hours. For my case as I have all the documents required, it was verified within 1 hour. Once verified The SG Embassy will issue the attached Doc of Identity.

Do note that for urgent cases is better to call the consular asap so they can start preparing your documentation to send to SG ICA for verification.

Step 3:  Thai Immigration Department

Location: The Government Complex - Chaeng Wattana (abt 30-45mins fr SG Embassy)

Operating Hrs:
Mon - Fri: 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4.30pm
Weekend/PH : Closed

FEE: FREE

This place is super far but in order to have a smooth pass at the custom, it is advisable to come to the Thai Immigration Dept. Do note that there is no shift rotating during their lunch hours. Everybody break for lunch and you have to leave the hall! Though you only require a stamp from them but the process is super long.....in fact I waited for about 5hrs!!!!!

And make sure you took the correct Q number - K1 (sth about Visa) as I was being issued a wrong number and in the end I have to re-Q. Their system is lousy and will not slot you in the Q though they are at fault.

With all these you are covered and safe. When return to Singapore rem to proceed to ICA to report loss of passport and request for waiver of penalty (subject to approval).

Lesson Learnt:

  1. Always bring a photocopy of passport overseas
  2. Keep the original passport in the hotel safe
  3. Bring only the photocopy passport out shopping
  4. Never keep all money and cards together
  5. Store all important number in the HP e.g. credit card center
  6. Always bring 1 Visa card as they are able to replace and send to your hotel within 24Hours
  7. Always be vigilant, stay alert.
  8. Important item keep in front of you, best carry a anti-theft money bag
